APN's daily news review from Israel
Sunday September 16, 2018

Quote of the day:
"(Israeli Ambassador to Israel Ron) Dermer's thunderous silence sends a bad and problematic message to all women. It makes it clear that women's bodies no longer belong to them, when it comes to the whims of an esteemed official in the top echelons of the government, and that it is better for women to keep quiet." --MK Karin Elharar (Yesh Atid) said Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer, should be recalled for not reporting on warnings he received regarding the dangerous conduct of David Keyes, the Prime Minister's Spokesman, towards women.*
You Must Be Kidding:
“Once you cut out East Jerusalem hospitals and cut out girls playing soccer with each other, it’s the end of hope." --David Harden, a former American aid agency official who managed projects in the West Bank and Gaza, reacted to the news that the Trump administration has decided to cut $10 million of foreign aid money that was supposed to go to supporting co-existence groups working on the ground in Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

*Only after the New York Times reported that a journalist warned Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer about Netanyahu spokesman David Keyes' sexual misconduct, did Dermer admit that he was told that Keyes was ‘dangerous to women’ and said he didn't inform Netanyahu. Maariv's political affairs correspondent Yanir Kuzin wrote that "in his announcement, Dermer removed from Netanyahu the responsibility for hiring Keyes at his office over the last two years." MK Karin Elharar (Yesh Atid) said Dermer’s inaction was worse than Keyes.' "Dermer's thunderous silence sends a bad and problematic message to all women. It makes it clear that women's bodies no longer belong to them, when it comes to the whims of an esteemed official in the top echelons of the government, and that it is better for women to keep quiet," MK Elharar wrote in a letter addressed to the prime minister. MK Michal Rozin (Meretz) called on the Israel's Civil Service Commissioner to probe the allegations of sexual misconduct leveled at David Keyes as well as the fact that Dermer knew of them and didn't inform Netanyahu.
