But the legacy of its malformed package structure isn't; the catalogues 
still require XML gymnastics to circumvent that legacy.  I've reduced 
the impact of that somewhat, but at the expense of a requirement for 
some manual pre-install, and post-install user intervention.

I know :-)  Other users may not, and rely on us to furnish these updated 
versions.
