Jup, that's why a missing name/summary is an error in the validator.
The AppStream specification says that "the minimal required tags are:
<id/>, <name/>, <summary/>, <metadata_license/>", while summaries can
be fetched from .desktop files, but long-term having them in metainfo
files makes sense.
