Dunno about mailing lists, but the usenet groups comp.lang.c and
comp.lang.c++ have put up with my noob questions -- provided that I at
least show some effort of trying to get the thing.
And even though you don't prefer them, there are IRC chatrooms focused
on the topic(e.g. ##programming on freenode)
