Of course it does. Otherwise the Debian installer would not boot in EFI
You can't mix UEFI and MBR. It's either one or the other.
Actually you can. The Debian installer can boot either in legacy BIOS or
native EFI mode. So does a Debian system when installed properly.
I doubt it that has anything to do with it. More than likely its not
loaded enough stuff to service his usb keyboard or mouse. Might have to
plug in a real ps2 keyboard to drive it at that point.
External PS/2 devices are becoming rare these days.
I have seen this kind of behaviour on a laptop which with integrated
PS/2 keyboard and touchpad. The PS/2 controller required an additional
kernel parameter in order to operate properly. Sorry, I can't remember
exactly which one, just it was i8042.something.
