To build your own binary, do in the directory where you have the
file make_isombr_part.c :

  cc -g -Wall -o make_isombr_part make_isombr_part.c

This command should end quickly without any messages.
If messages appear, then please show them.
If all is well, a new file
  make_isombr_part
is supposed to have emerged and to have rx-permissions at least
for its owner. That's your executable binary.

Looks successful. fdisk now reports

Disk /dev/sdb: 7.2 GiB, 7746879488 bytes, 15130624 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: dos
Disk identifier: 0x0400c414

Now I'm going have to search my links for information about adding preseed.cfg and other useful files to a flash drive with an ISO image on it.
