That's qemu-user.  On the other hand, qemu-system, while nowhere as
convenient, is safe and reliable.  Its bugs don't exceed the differences
between revisions of real hardware.

Autotools hint: to do a zx-spectrum build on a pdp11 host, type:
  ./configure --host=zx-spectrum --build=pdp11
